Artista visual, documentalista e investigadora nacida en Asunción, Paraguay, en 1959. Historiadora por la Universidad Nacional de Asunción (1978-1982) y Antropóloga por la Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia de México (1982-1986), desarrolla una obra que articula imagen, memoria, historia y pensamiento.
Su práctica artística abarca pintura, grabado, dibujo, fotografía, video, impresiones, escritura, composiciones digitales, montajes e instalaciones, explorando las relaciones entre la imagen, el tiempo y la transformación.
Ha participado en bienales y exposiciones internacionales como la Bienal de Venecia (1997), Bienal Mercosur (1997), Bienal de Lima (1997), Versiones del Sur en el Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid (2000), Photo España (2001), Proyecto Weltanschauung en la ONU, Nueva York (2007), y Bienal de Asunción (2017).
Paralelamente a su producción artística, desarrolla una importante labor como investigadora, curadora y productora cultural. Fue socia fundadora de la Asociación GENTE DE ARTE (1994), coordinadora del Foro Cultural Permanente (2008-2009), coordinadora del Comité de Asistencia Técnica de la Comisión Nacional para los Festejos del Bicentenario de la Independencia Nacional (2008-2009) y directora ejecutiva del proyecto editorial Creadores del Bicentenario (2011-2012).
Desde 2015 dirige el seminario Filosofía y Arte y desarrolla el proyecto Los Artistas Hablan, dedicado al diálogo y apoyo a nuevas generaciones de artistas. Actualmente trabaja en la recuperación, investigación y difusión de sus archivos audiovisuales sobre el arte paraguayo de las décadas de 1990 y 2000, integrados en su plataforma web fatimamartini.org y en su canal Fátima Martini — Filosofía y Arte.
Publicó el libro Trazos breves (FONDEC, 2015). Durante 2025-2026 desarrolla en paralelo dos proyectos artísticos: Partes Infinitas, un libro de artista que reúne imagen y poesía en una investigación visual sobre memoria, contemplación y transformación, con el apoyo de Intercontinental Editora; y Reinterpretaciones, una obra digital de imagen en movimiento donde las imágenes se transforman a través de procesos de metamorfosis, tránsito y expansión temporal.
Visual artist, documentary filmmaker and researcher born in Asunción, Paraguay, in 1959. She is a historian graduated from the National University of Asunción (1978-1982) and an anthropologist graduated from the National School of Anthropology and History of Mexico (1982-1986). Her work articulates image, memory, history and thought.
Her artistic practice encompasses painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, video, prints, writing, digital compositions, assemblages and installations, exploring the relationships between image, time and transformation.
She has participated in international biennials and exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale (1997), Mercosur Biennial (1997), Lima Biennial (1997), Versiones del Sur at the Reina Sofía Museum, Madrid (2000), Photo España (2001), the Weltanschauung Project at the United Nations, New York (2007), and the Asunción Biennial (2017).
Alongside her artistic production, she develops an important body of work as a researcher, curator and cultural producer. She was a founding member of the GENTE DE ARTE Association (1994), coordinator of the Permanent Cultural Forum (2008-2009), coordinator of the Technical Assistance Committee of the National Commission for the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of National Independence (2008-2009), and executive director of the editorial project Creadores del Bicentenario (2011-2012).
Since 2015, she has directed the seminar Filosofía y Arte and developed the project Los Artistas Hablan, dedicated to dialogue and support for new generations of artists. She is currently working on the recovery, research and dissemination of her audiovisual archives on Paraguayan art from the 1990s and 2000s, integrated into her website fatimamartini.org and her channel Fátima Martini — Filosofía y Arte.
