Artista visual y documentalista nacida en Asunción, Paraguay, en 1959. Es historiadora por la Universidad Nacional de Asunción (1978-1982) y antropóloga por la Escuela Nacional de Antropología e Historia de México (1982-1986).
Desarrolla su obra en técnicas mixtas: pintura, grabado, dibujo, fotografía, video, impresiones, escritura, montajes e instalaciones, articulando imagen, memoria, historia y pensamiento.
Ha participado en exposiciones y eventos artísticos como la Bienal de Venecia (1997), Bienal Mercosur (1997), Bienal de Lima (1997), Versiones del Sur en el Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid, 2000), Photo España (2001), Proyecto Weltanschauung en la ONU (Nueva York, 2007), Bienal de Asunción (2017.
Su obra HAMACAS, instalación creada a partir de fotografías etnográficas, recibió el Primer Premio Categoría Instalación en la III Bienal Martel (Asunción 1994) otorgado por un jurado internacional, y pasó a formar parte de la Colección Permanente del Museo del Barro, Paraguay. Fue exhibida en el Museo Reina Sofia (Madrid, 2000), en la Bienal de Asunción (2017) y en 2026 en el Museo del Barro, Asunción.
Es investigadora, curadora y productora cultural de proyectos artísticos. Fue socia fundadora de la Asociación Gente de Arte (1994), coordinadora del Foro Cultural Permanente (2008-2009), coordinadora del Comité de Asistencia Técnica de la Comisión Nacional para los Festejos del Bicentenario de la Independencia Nacional (2008-2009) y directora ejecutiva del proyecto editorial Creadores del Bicentenario (2011-2012).
Publicó el libro Trazos breves (FONDEC, 2015). Desde 1991 hasta 2005 enseñó Historia y Teoría del Arte en la Escuela de Bellas Artes, el Instituto Superior de Arte y la carrera de Diseño Gráfico de la Universidad Católica de Asunción. Desde 2015 desarrolla el seminario Filosofía y Arte y el proyecto Los Artistas Hablan, dedicado al diálogo y apoyo a nuevas generaciones de artistas.
Fue productora y directora del programa Conducción Martini (Canal Grupo Martini YouTube, 2021) y colaboradora sobre arte y multiculturalidad en Cuadernos de Barrio (Canal GEN y Radio/TV Universo 970, 2020-2024). En 2022 creó Arte al Cuerpo, una línea de diseños textiles basados en sus obras visuales.
Durante 2025-2026 desarrolla en paralelo dos cuerpos de obra en una investigación visual sobre memoria, contemplación y transformación: Partes Infinitas, libro de artista que reúne imagen y poesía, con el apoyo de Intercontinental Editora; y Reinterpretaciones, obra digital de imagen en movimiento publicada en su página web.
Actualmente trabaja en la recuperación de sus archivos audiovisuales sobre el arte en Paraguay de las décadas de 1990 y 2000, así como en investigaciones de rescate y valoración de obras y legados de artistas paraguayos, difundidas a través de su plataforma web fatimamartini.org.
Visual artist and documentary filmmaker born in Asunción, Paraguay, in 1959. She is a historian graduated from the National University of Asunción (1978-1982) and an anthropologist graduated from the National School of Anthropology and History of Mexico (1982-1986).
She develops her work through mixed techniques: painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, video, prints, writing, assemblages and installations, articulating image, memory, history and thought.
She has participated in exhibitions and artistic events including the Venice Biennale (1997), Mercosur Biennial (1997), Lima Biennial (1997), Versiones del Sur at the Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid, 2000), Photo España (2001), the Weltanschauung Project at the United Nations (New York, 2007), and the Asunción Biennial (2017).
Her work HAMACAS, an installation created from ethnographic photographs, received the First Prize in the Installation category at the III Martel Biennial (Asunción, 1994), awarded by an international jury, and became part of the Permanent Collection of the Museo del Barro, Paraguay. It was exhibited at the Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid, 2000), at the Asunción Biennial (2017), and in 2026 at the Museo del Barro, Asunción.She is a researcher, curator and cultural producer of artistic projects. She was a founding member of the Gente de Arte Association (1994), coordinator of the Permanent Cultural Forum (2008-2009), coordinator of the Technical Assistance Committee of the National Commission for the Commemoration of the Bicentennial of National Independence (2008-2009), and executive director of the editorial project Creadores del Bicentenario (2011-2012).
She published the book Trazos breves (FONDEC, 2015). From 1991 to 2005, she taught Art History and Theory at the School of Fine Arts, the Higher Institute of Art and the Graphic Design program at the Catholic University of Asunción. Since 2015, she has developed the seminar Filosofía y Arte and the project Los Artistas Hablan, dedicated to dialogue and support for new generations of artists.
She was producer and director of the program Conducción Martini (Canal Grupo Martini YouTube, 2021) and a contributor on art and multiculturalism for Cuadernos de Barrio (Canal GEN and Universo 970 Radio/TV, 2020-2024). In 2022, she created Arte al Cuerpo, a line of textile designs based on her visual artwork.
In 2025–2026, she develops two parallel bodies of work as part of a visual investigation into memory, contemplation and transformation: Partes Infinitas, an artist’s book bringing together image and poetry, with the support of Intercontinental Editora; and Reinterpretaciones, a digital moving-image work published on her website.
She is currently working on the recovery of her audiovisual archives on Paraguayan art from the 1990s and 2000s, as well as on research projects dedicated to the preservation and recognition of the works and legacies of Paraguayan artists, disseminated through her website fatimamartini.org.
